The benefits of panel screens.

Panel screens are like large vertical blinds but are more ideal window installations for large windows and doors alike.  They are primarily used to control the inflow of the natural light.  It can also be used to provide privacy whenever needed.  Most often, they are used in commercial spaces and offices because of their door and window sizes but it can also be great in houses.

Most often, and more practical choice, panel screens are custom-made to fit perfectly into the window or door.  Installing them without perfect fit may decrease, rather than increase, the beauty of the room and may not fully serve its purpose.

Another purpose of panel screens nowadays is to utilize it to divide or partition a room.  This is very useful for multi-functional rooms – may it be for commercial or personal spaces.  A single big room can be used as one room or two separate ones and be interchanged whenever needed.  The length of the space can be divided into several panels for easier storage on the side when not in used.  It can be designed to closed down to either one or two side which makes it convenient to your need or preference.

One great thing about panel screens, nowadays, is that you can actually use designer fabrics for your panels.  These fabrics are specifically designed to be stable even with the large dimension of the panels.  Different types of fabric have their specific uses for and these said designers fabrics are specifically designed for panel screens.  There is no more need to worry about the wearing effects of fabric and its stability issues for such large uses.

These designer fabrics are available in wide range.  There is almost anything for everyone’s preference.  You won’t have to limit yourself with the type and kind of fabric you want to use for your panels.  The problem of not having a fabric that will complement and match that of the room is no longer an issue.

With the current technology of manufacturing panel screens, it can be made customarily to almost any space you need or may want to put them.  This also makes it convenient to use when other kinds of blinds and similar products are not appropriate.  It also makes it possible to use them not just in commercial spaces and offices but to houses and personal spaces as well.  It combines functionality, convenience and aesthetics into one product.

Choosing between a villa and a resort style blind.

Living in a tropical part of the world is a very great way to live.  A lot of people spend vacation going on a tropical area but if you are in one, it’s like you are on a vacation all year long.  Vacationers spend a lot of money just to stay in a nice and cozy room – and it costs a lot.  You, on the other hand, can make your home like a vacation house with a few redecorating.  You can even transform it to a resort or villa style to enjoy all throughout the year.

The cozyness of villas and resorts can easily be duplicated in your own home.  First, you must decide whether you are going for a villa style or a resort one.  Differentiating the two, the former is more of a natural look while the latter is more of a classy and clean look.

One of the things vacationers look for in a room is the window, and it will be a good start for your redecorating project.  Being on vacation, they want to see the view of the surroundings from their room while still establishing privacy whenever they want.  Installing a blind in your window will easily replicate such effect of a villa or resort.

As mentioned earlier, a villa type design goes for a more natural look.  Choose colors within the shades of brown, white, blue, green and yellow.  Exposed timber batons and the like can be considered for a more relaxed and natural look.  The important thing when going for a villa atmosphere is that it is relaxing and blends in with the surrounding of the house.

A resort type design of a blind is more neat, clean and classy.  The most recommended color is white because it gives a look of cleanliness and neatness although lighter shades of grey and other light colors can also be used as long as natural light can pass through.  A hint of metal or aluminium for the ribs of the roman blind adds a touch of class.

Whether you are going for a villa or resort design, the fabric is very important.  They must have a natural soft texture and avoid using hard and flat look.

Now that you are done with the blinds, you can now work on the other aspects of your house to make it your vacation house for all year round.

Will the inside of your house be warm enough for you to be comfortable especially during the nights? There are many ways you can stay warm during those nights but there is one that is cost and energy efficient among its advantages—installing plantation shutters.
Windows are parts of the house that largely contributes to the temperature of the house. During summer, the summer heat can enter the house through the windows that can make the inside very hot and uncomfortable. Introduction to Interior Design: Types of Window Blinds

Most of us think that we know more things about blinds than what we really do.  It is just common that we treat almost anything we see in windows that can be adjusted to control the light coming in as blinds, and they are.  But there are actually different kinds of blinds that differ from one another in terms of size, orientation and material.  Here are some basic types of blinds to help us familiarize ourselves to them.

·      Venetian blinds.  Nowadays, it encompasses much of the window accessories that we have on stores.  Basically, this type has horizontal slats made of metal, PVC, composite or wood materials.  To control the lighting, slats can be tilted or be adjusted from the top of the window.

·       Mini blinds.  This is the same as that of the venetian blinds.  The difference lies on the width of the slats.  Typically, this kind has slats with width that range from 1/2” to 2”.

·      Vertical blinds. As the name suggests, the slats of this type of blind is arranged vertically. They can actually be adjusted in such a way that sideways will be still mounted on top of the window like most of the types.

·       Roman blinds / shades.  This type is a popular favourite since they are usually made from fabric.  A cord is woven through the fabric that allows the adjustment of the blinds.  The open part is smooth while the top portion where the fabric is set is stacked evenly.

·       Pleated blinds.  It is like a roman shade but the open portion of the fabric is also pleated. It is known to be an insulator of heat especially during the warmer months.

·       Wooden blinds.  This type covers any blind that is made of wood.  Typically, the material used is bamboo and most often, the slats are horizontal.  Some of them can be folded like venetian blinds while others are rolled up.

Establishing the Proper Kitchen Atmosphere

One of the most utilized and happiest rooms in a house is the kitchen. From cooking, to eating or just lounging at the counter, the kitchen is a space where most of the family gathers and socialize. For that, setting the mood is very important and decorating is the way to accomplish that. A room with an aura of comfort and warmth is very often what we want the most.

If you are trying to create a theme or a colour scheme for your kitchen, make sure that the cabinet door will highlight and supplement your theme. For old-style themes like wooden texture, it is recommended to use a clear glass cabinet face.  The contrasting effect in texture will highlight both the cabinets and walls and that of the glass itself, as well.  This will also work for dark or dull coloured schemes.  The clear glass will have a shining effect amidst the rough or dark atmosphere of the kitchen.

On the contrary, modern styles like metallic themes will be highlighted by frosted glass.  It is also better to use this kind of glass if you have a light or bright coloured scheme.

Though cabinet doors may be a factor in setting the mood of your kitchen, windows and their accessories are a key essential. The amount of light that comes in can really affect the tone and atmosphere that dominates your kitchen. A well-lit one gives the feeling of sunniness and cheerfulness while a dim space may be a bit gloomy and depressing. But an overly bright room is also not a good option since the glaring rays of the sun can sometimes give us headaches and does not give the impression of comfort.

For window treatments, the choices are varied and numerous. Shades, valances, blinds and curtains are among the few. For optimum light with a measure of privacy, sheer curtains offer a breezy choice while thick curtains can block out the most sunlight while giving the option to be tied to let in more light. Shades and blinds are also excellent alternatives since they have the versatility to control the brightness that filters in without looking too heavy. And they add style and a natural look that is affordable and can be custom-made.

Whatever design and theme you will implement, just make sure that they will enhance and highlight the atmosphere you want for your kitchen. After all, the personality of your kitchen will likely influence your mood.

Tips on Augmenting Your Living Room Space

The living room is usually the most used space in the house and is considered as the heart of any home.  This is where a majority of the routine activities happen and where events and gatherings take place.  It is just sensible that most of the things you normally use and those that you want to display can be found here so you must have enough space to contain them.  Here are some tips to create storage space in your living room.

  1. Install a custom-built shelf covering an entire wall.  Be creative with partitions so you can put and mix various stuffs in the shelf.  Combination of shelves, cabinets and showcases can be created to serve as a bookshelf, filing cabinet, and display showcase among others.  Television set and home theatre system can even be integrated in the centre of your “shelf-wall”, especially when you installed it on the longest wall of the room.
  2. Use coffee tables or centre tables that have storage space underneath.  This can store magazines and other non-essential items that you only use once in a while.
  3. If you have low windows, you can fit window seats.  It can be a good reading seat by padding the lid and it creates extra space to store your things.
  4. If you have a staircase within your living room, hang some baskets with creative designs to serve as an ornament and storage for small things, at the same time.  Create a shelf or a cabinet underneath the staircase to store cleaning materials or a shoe cabinet, among others.
  5. Mount your television on your wall to save some floor space where you can put a cabinet.  If you prefer a television rack, use something that has a cabinet underneath instead of a bare one.
The list above is just a few ways to create space for your living room and there are a lot more you can do. All you need is to be imaginative and creative, do not be afraid to mix materials and designs.  The important thing is that the storage space you create will be suitable to the purpose it is intended for.

Maximizing space does not only entail having enough storage room but should also make the area seem bigger. To create the impression of space and make your living room feel less constricted, paint the walls with a neutral light colour. White is one of the best colours to generate an illusion of expansiveness that will be perfect for any small area since it allows the eye to wander freely. Hanging curtains or blinds that are the same colour as the walls enhances the effect of spaciousness – white and ivory-coloured window treatments that will let in the light works best for increasing the roomy feeling.
